Chronicles in Ordinary Time
An Illustrated Journey
1 March 2009
Blogging...
Why does one blog? In my case, it's because I have things to say
that I hope will be valuable to someone. "Chronicles in Ordinary Time" is a
title I've been playing with for decades. "Ordinary Time" comes from The Church;
there are seasons of the year which have special meaning, Lent, Easter, Christmas, etc.
Those portions of the year without a special significance become "Ordinary
Time".
Much of my
life has been "Ordinary Time"-- there have been periods calling for special
observance:
My sister recently celebrated the 21st Anniversary of her liver transplant. That was
a season of miracles...She didn't have health insurance; the hospital wanted $180,000
before she could be admitted. That was an astronomical amount of money. A friend and I
began a fundraising campaign that began with donation containers at the checkout stand,
and by God's Grace, became an event 'hosted' by CNN, the Washington Post, the Denver Post
and others. A lot of money was raised; my sister received her transplant. I did some
Googling the other day, and found my sister's name in a book, and the mention of a woman
from Oregon who received a free transplant from a hospital in San Francisco. That
transplant happened because the offer originally came to my sister. We were too far
committed to another hospital, so I suggested they contact this other woman that needed a
transplant.
There have
been other 'seasons' as well; but most of my life has been Ordinary Time-- marriage,
raising kids, having a career (or three), Scouts, Band, Theater, sports (all with the
kids)-- and all the time wondering if I'm really doing what I am 'supposed' to be doing...
That's what
this blog will probably be about...
